RTA Claims Rise as Employers Liability and Disease Cases Fall

Personal injury claims submitted through the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) Claims Portal fell over the 12 months to the end of June 2025, despite a slight increase in road traffic accident (RTA) claims.

According to the latest data from the MoJ, RTA claims rose by 3.4% year-on-year, with 7,177 claims submitted to the portal in June 2025 compared to 6,943 for the same period a year earlier.

In contrast, the other business lines covered by the Claims Portal experienced a fall in claims. Public liability claims fell by 2.1% to 2,592 – down from 2,647 a year earlier – and employers liability (accident) claims fell 3.1% to 1,875.

Employers liability (disease) claims, meanwhile, experienced the biggest drop in claims after volumes fell by 47% to just 156.

These disease claims were also the only business line to report a drop in the average general damages paid, with the average level of redress falling by 2.3% to £3,203 for June 2025.

The other business lines all reported an increase in average damages, with the largest increase coming for employers liability (accident) claims, which rose by 4.5% to £6,742.

Public liability claims, meanwhile, saw average damages rise by 3.2% to £6,739 while RTA claims rose by 1.0% to £6,685.
